2GBX Studio Review

Thanks to the invitation of Tim Do, I was privileged to sit in on the second year graduate studio reviews for professors Peter Testa, Tom Wiscombe and Marcelo Spina at the Southern California Institute of Architecture in the recent Spring 07 Semester. The critics that came that afternoon included Neil Denari, Sulan Kolatan, Hernan Diaz Alonso, Andy Ku, Gnuform's Heather Roberge, Ming Fung, Kevin Regalado, Stephen Philips, Georgina Huljich, Joe Day and Matthew Melnyk. The work was mostly impressive and the students were very experimental even though the default tool was the software Maya.

Here is my first ever SketchCrawl Sketch... I think I took too long to sketch this. I need to rid myself of my precision demon of being an architect. Can't help it when all I do is layout toilets endlessly...hahaha.

Here is an ULTRA-CUTE milk van that my wife sketched while walking around the Travel town Museum. I think there were just too many cute things to sketch. And this is an amazing water color sketch by Mr. John Scharmen. Do check out his work on http://homepage.mac.com/rohantm/ He did an underbelly of the train sketch. Love it! THANK YOU JOHN!

I was playing with a 30sec photo and sketching away with a torch light. Well, I came across the amazing artist, Goro's light paintings http://www.area-56.de/chapter56/labels/Light%20Paintings.html and thought you guys could take a look at it. His work is amazing! I hope to get in touch with him and see if I can add him to my list of Friends/Inspirations!

Rez Tez

Mimisis as technique. This was done in reference to another artist's work. I am still learning to sketch quickly in Photoshop. Trying to define form with minimal tones and understand the moods of my sketching hand.

Where can I see this?

Well, if you had to wait over an hour for friends to have dinner, sketching is a great way to spend your time. While praying that I be patient and kind to my tardy friends, I found that it was really relaxing to sketch even a simple suitcase on the wall. I was thinking of drawing a space ship but this suitcase on the wall distracted me from doing so. If you guys ever go to East Yakitori for half price Salmon Night (Monday) or Tuna Night (Thursday), see if you can find the spot that I was rooted to as I sketched this. Have fun!

I was the Workshop Coordinator with Nick Gelpi, project architect for Steven Holl @ The SCI-Arc Gallery, Summer 2005. I had to manage a team of 14 students who came in at different times to help with the installation. It was a success accept for a theft where someone in the school thought it was cool to steal one of the half size models. This is yet another back handed compliment to the work. It seems like a pattern that these things happen all the time at SCI-Arc.
