Thesis Argument Mapping

I had to come up with the excuse to design buildings that transform. Eventually, I executed the design with an amateur animation of architecture that had inverse kinematic joints in them.

George Yu's BLOW UP @ SCI-Arc

These giant bladder shaped balloons had touch sensitive strips attached to its tails and when one touchs it, it lets out a specific notes of set of notes.

It becomes an instrument at the scale of the exhibition hall at SCI-Arc. I was involved in setting it up and really enjoyed it. Even Thom Mayne came and had fun playing with balloons!

Alexis Rochas' AIR FOUNDATIONS

We had to build at 1:1 scale of whatever we proposed could be used to resist gravity. I would post more images of this so as to help us understand this curved truss system that is made rigid by twisting it onto itself. The funny thing is that this flying machine of mine got stolen. Yes all 24 feet in wing span. What a back handed compliment. Such a rewarding loss. Sigh...

AIR FOUNDATIONS

Fluid Light

This was first designed in MAYA, then milled in foam and then vacuum formed. Christmas lights were then placed inside of it across its entire length. It is about 8'-0" x 1'-0" x 0'-6" in dimension. I wonder what my lighting designer wife has to say about this. Hmmmm....

Tomographic Topography

Laser cut pieces to form the MAYA digital model I designed for the 2GAX Studio. Doubles up as a lighting fixture.

Abstracted Optical Mouse

This was a series of drilled holes in several pieces of acrylic and layered to create this ghostly type of surface. I am glad the acrylic did not melt or crack on me when I was swiss cheesing it.

Messing with MAYA

Here was one of my first attempts at playing with Alias MAYA nurbs based sculpting. Just trying to have different corrugations in the surface. It pretends to be architectural but I think it is still rather stuck in the "flashy+shiny". Oh well, I did learn about how naive we can get playing with a brand new program in a simplistic way. CV stretching is definitely not the only way to "push the potential of the program".

Jelly Fish

Drawing class at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California. It was more exciting for me to look at the jelly fish than to draw it. Well, here is my attempt to capture a blob that would not stay still.

Tomography

Tomography is the study of section cuts instead of its more famous cousin, topography which is a study of planal cuts. I then lofted it together in serial manner. I hope you guys like it.

Final Year Undergraduate Exhibition

This was the presentation format that I was limited to. Well, I packed it with as much information as I possibly could. The little yellow post-it on the upper right hand corner indicated that I fortunate enough to be selected for the Final Year Top Projects competition. At this point I had already had an advance placement into the 2nd year of Grad studies at SCI-Arc and was on my way to Sunny Southern California. What a mad rush! I had 2 more months in Singapore and then left family and girlfriend (some of you know who she is. If not, you can scroll to the top right corner of this blog!).

LVMH HQ (Singapore)

This was my final year thesis design for the LVMH Headquarters in Singapore. This project was chosen for the Final Project Exhibition at the National University of Singapore School of Architecture. Its glowing skin ebbs and dims according to the varying activity levels in the building. The porosity of the skin hints at the private and public content of the program behind each volume.

Artist village

This model was done with no glue. Just cut to fit pieces. I just wanted to challenge myself and make life difficult. It was rewarding though. This is a design for an artists' village in Outram Park, Singapore on a sloped plot of grass that is uninhabited.

Look up!

LOOK UP! This is a pay-per-spray perfume booth shaped as an abstracted flower. The petals and sepals of the design are tinted, frosted, warped glass combined with scratched metal matted to various degrees. The booth closes its doors on you when you enter like a venus fly trap only to spit you out when it is down spraying you with a coat of scent of your choice.
